Tenho alguns simples scripts em shell que copiei da net e gostaria de melhora-los vale mais a pena aprender shell script ou partir para um python por exemplo?

Minha opinião: aprenda Shell Script, AWK e mais alguma linguagem de script (tipo Perl ou Python).

Uso Shell até hoje, muito Perl, e já precisei muito de AWK também.

Mas, é apenas a minha opinião.
